Our consortium comprises experts in several fields connected with sustainable energy:

Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development With its 15 programmes, the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (University of Applied Sciences) has a very distinctive profile dedicated to sustainable economic activity. The interdisciplinary cooperation between the faculties and research groups is oriented towards rural areas. The interwork with regional and international partners in research and applications is nationally unique. Under the leadership of Prof. Piorr, the working group “Renewable Energies” is researching in the fields of agri-environmental analysis and biomass analyses from agriculture and forestry. Special emphasis is given to the development of methodological approaches in order to analyse key-environmental impacts of bioenergy production in Europe. The close cooperation with the working group “agroforestry” under the leadership of Prof. Murach completes the profile of Renewable Energy Research in Eberswalde.

 

 

 

Kolleg KMGNE Berlin

The Kolleg is a trans- and interdisciplinary research and educational institute. KMGNE works as a facility for consulting, planning and implementing design processes for sustainable development. The main fields of acion are (i) the communication of renewable energy, climate change, sustainability issues, (ii) education for sustainable development, poverty reduction and life long learning, (iii) Sustainable regional development and sustainable economy, (iv) conflict management and mediation in complex systems, (v) participation and empowerment of civial society.

 

 

 

Nordic Centre for Spatial Development NORDREGIO, Stockholm

 

Nordregio is a leading international Nordic research institute in the broad field of regional studies. They undertake strategic research with the aim of producing informed and relevant material for decision-makers at the international, national and regional levels. Nordregio specializes in international comparative and collaborative research. Using its leading-edge skills, Nordregio carries out quantitative and qualitative analyses on many different geographic scales.

Regional development, urban and rural systems, demography, governance and gender, innovation and knowledge, green growth, international energy policy, global climate change and local adaptation are among Nordregio's major areas of interest. Its research competencies include the production of high-quality maps and the development of state of the art statistical databases.

 

 

 

ENSPAC at Roskilde University

The most important task of Roskilde University is to contribute to experimental, innovative forms of learning and knowledge creation. The university is research-driven and provides education for future generations of managers, teachers and experts based on advanced knowledge.

The department of Environmental, Social and Spacail Change ENSPAC conduct research and education in topics related to interactions between humans and their environmental, social and spatial conditions. ENSPAC takes a holistic approach to solving complex environmental and societal problems. Within baresus, ENSPAC is the expert for economical analyses and solutions.

 

 

 

AU Herning, Business and Social Sciences at Aarhus University and Nordic Centre of Excellence (NCoE) NORD-STAR

AU Herning is an interdisciplinary academic department in The school of Business and Social Sciences (BSS). BSS is an EQUIS accredited broad business school and one of the four main academic areas at Aarhus University. It ranks among the largest business schools in Europe and is, furthermore, the largest business and social sciences unit in Denmark at university level with a broad academic base. All academic departments at Business and Social Sciences are internationally recognised for their educational and research activities. In addition, the school hosts a large number of internationally recognised research centres. As such, the Nordic Centre of Excellence (NCoE) NORD-STAR www.nord-star.info headquartered at AU Herning aims to develop tools to help the Nordic countries address the twin challenge of a warmer climate and the side effects of policy impacts.

 

 

West Pomeranian University of Technology Szczecin

The Westpomeranian University of Technology Szczecin was born in 2009 after consolidation of scientific and teaching potential of Szczecin University of Technology and the Agricultural Academy in Szczecin. Bringing a university into existence, besides enriching its teaching programme with new fields of study and specializations, creates a possibility of further, faster progress of new technologies in technical and natural sciences. Both universities contributed to a system offering students a wide range of academic education. The creation of the West Pomeranian University of Technology consolidated research teams dealing with: engineering, environmental protection, renewable energy, bio- and nanotechnologies, polymers, economics and industry and agriculture technologies.

 

 

 

Tallin University of Technology

Tallinn University of Technology (Tallinn Tech) is a technical university of international scope that provides high-level research education in engineering, natural and social sciences, is tightly integrated with international cooperation networks and projects, participates actively in creating the European higher education and research area and is attractive among international students as well as international teaching staff and researchers. The members of the Department of Thermal Engineering at the Tallinn University of Technology have excellent know-how and experience in technical issues concerning renewable energy. They worked on the role of wood fuel in sustainable energy systems for Estonia, wetland biomass resources as well as on biomass potentials from untapped energy resources.

 

 

Latvia University for Agriculture

The goal of the Latvia University of Agriculture is to provide the possibility to obtain higher academic and higher professional education in agriculture, veterinary medicine, food technology, engineering, forestry science, social science, information technologies and environment management sectors as well as to develop science and to maintain and develop the Latvian intellectual potential and culture. The mission of LLU is to develop the intellectual potential for sustainable future of Latvia and especially rural areas and the vision of LLU is to become a modern, internationally recognized and prestige university, taking part in the common European academic education and science space. The cooperation with business grows year by year. The scientists of the Latvia University of Agriculture participate in international scientific projects - the EU 6th and 7th framework programs, scientific cooperation projects with the Scandinavian countries, INTERREG, bilateral cooperation and other projects.

 

 

Competence Centre of Ecodesign, Riga

The Competence Centre of Ecodesign is created by the ecodesign experts from Latvia to promote the ecodesign development in Latvia. The NGO working aims are to increase the capacity to SMEs implement ecodesign principles in their products and services, to facilitate green public procurement, to support development of the policy for sustainable products and services, to gather and provide information for experts and customers to choose environmentally friendly products as well as to provide trainings in relevant subjects. he NGO "Competence center of ecodesign" is the first organization in Latvia which gathers the local ecodesign experts, who have practically worked with SMEs to train them on ecodesign.

Vides eksperti is an enterprise that offers services in the fields of Environmental protection, Work safety and Chemistry. Their portfolio in Environmental protection embraces Strategic Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental audit and Ecomapping, Energy audit as well as assistance in complying with legal requirements. Main costumors are small and medium sized Enterprises and municipalities. Vides eksperti worked out more than twenty environmental audits and strategic environmental audits as well as four environmental audits on Natura 2000.

 

 

Estonian University for Life Sciences, Tartu

Estonian University of Life Sciences comprises five research and development institutes: the Institute of Economics and Social Sciences, the Institute of Technology, the Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry, the Institute of Forestry and Rural Engineering, and the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The Institute of Forestry and Rural Engineering was formed through the merger of the Faculty of Forestry, the Faculty of Land Engineering and the Forest Research Institute. The mission of the Institute of Forestry and Rural Engineering is to develop academic higher education of forestry, natural sciences, geomatics, civil engineering and water management in the Republic of Estonia for relevant sectors and to increase general knowledge about nature and engineering in society.

 

 

Polish Academy of Science, IPSO, Warsaw

The Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization at Polish Academy of Sciences is an important research centre in Poland in the field of geography. The IGSO PAS tasks include, inter alia carrying out research studies, training of scientific staff, research workers and specialists in geographical sciences. IGSO PAS carries out studies concerning dynamics of processes occurring in physico-geographical environment, on local as well as supraregional scale and from ecosystem to landscape level, within the area of Poland as well as Central and North Europe. The socio-economic research interests are centered around rural areas and local development, urban and social geography, transport geography, spatial organization and land management, problems of geopolitical location of Poland, tourism geography and other. The IGSO PAS special asset is an active involvement in international scientific collaboration that, in recent years, have resulted in participation in more than 50 scientific and practical programmes and projects.

The Department of Water Protection works in the fields of Planning and implementation of solutions in the field of water and sewage systems including the technical, environmental and economic aspects, Water resources management, Implementation of integrated sustainable management tools, Analyses of availability and affordability of water resources, Implementation of eco-innovative technologies in water sector, Decision support systems (DSS) in the area of water management, Scenario analyses with application of foresight methods, Environmental risk assessment, Models of the water cycle in urban and rural areas, System solutions for environmental management (Payments for Environmental Services - PES)

 

 

FORAN Sverige AB

FORAN Sverige AB belongs to the Foran group, which is an international consultancy service organisation working in the areas of forestry and nature management. Foran is operating in most of Scandinavia, Baltics, Poland, Ukraine and Russia. They offer their services to all forest owners as well as state organisations or other related to forest and nature management. The company is owned by some of the largest private actors on the norwegian, latvian and swedish market. Forans speciality is to collect, handle and analyze geographic information - using state-of-the-art-technology with the best combination of all available sources for geographic information. Foran are experts in Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data and image analysis and processing, providing geographic information services for forestry, civilian and defence applications. The Foran group is member of the international consultancy team Norwegian Forestry Group (NFG) and together with their partners they are running development projects all over the world.

 

 

Aalborg University Esbjerg

Aalborg University Esbjerg is a section of Aalborg University located in the city of Esbjerg. The Department of Energy Technology covers the entire area of energy technology, and carries out research mainly within technological solutions for effective utilisation of the energy resources, enhanced security of supply and a better environment. The research at the Department is organised in a range of research programmes, including Automotive and Industrial Drives, Biomass, Efficient and Reliable Power Electronic, Fluid Power in Wind and Wave Energy, Fuel Cell and Battery Systems, Green Buildings, Microgrids, Modern Power Transmission Systems, Photovoltaic Systems and Microgrids, Smart Grids and Active Networks, Thermoelectrics, Wind Power Systems. Each research programme includes a well-defined research group and a head of the programme.

 

 

Oulu University of Applied Science

Oulu University of Applied Sciences has set one of its focus areas on Sustainable Development, and another is Energy and Environment. OUAS has a long experience of development projects concerning agriculture, distributed production of renewable energy, especially bioenergy, and geographical information systems (GIS). OUAS has an important role in developing rural areas’ livelihood in agriculture, animal husbandry and in promoting entrepreneurship in bioenergy production in Northern Finland. OUAS has run projects in promoting energy self-sufficiency and distributed bioenergy production such as forest-based energy, biogas, and energy from other agricultural biomasses. Spatial tools like GIS have been applied in planning the use of bioenergy resources.

 

 

Environmental Policy Research Centre at Freie Universität Berlin

The Environmental Policy Research Centre at Freie Universität Berlin is an international team of social science researchers and students who research, study, and provide policy advice related to environmental and sustainable energy politics and policies. The FFU community is engaged in academic as well as more policy-oriented research. In addition, the FFU offers one of the broadest social science educational programs on energy and the environment for under- graduate and graduate students in Europe. FFU was/is involved in several projects with focus on trans-national, national, regional, and local energy policies and support instruments for renewable energy and energy efficiency in the Baltic Sea Region, Central and Eastern Europe and the countries of the Former Soviet Union.

 

 

Wood Technology Institute, Poznan

Wood Technology Institute is the only scientific-research institution in Poland which deals in a comprehensive manner with theoretical and practical issues of wood processing, its application and creation of new composites based on wood. The Institute’s mission is to conduct research aimed at production of modern materials and improvement of production technologies and processing techniques, which leads to harmonious and sustainable development of the wood industry and to achievement of high international competitiveness of the Polish wood sector. Through implementation of research results in the form of innovative, energy-saving and hygienic materials using both wood raw material and wood waste, which help to improve the quality of life, have positive influence on the environment and health, and increase the share of renewable energy carriers in the national energy balance, the Institute strives to create modern wood sector which meets the requirements of the 21st century society.
